02. Bob Dylan - The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan (Capitol - 1963).
Un ragazzo bianco della provincia creatore di una voce personale, vibrante, istruttiva, intelligente che ha oltrepassato il mondo della musica folk. E' quello che i Fight the Big Bull cercano di fare.
03. Papa Celestin's New Orleans Band - Marie Laveau (GHB Records -1994, registrazioni dei primi anni '50).
Registrazioni che ho scoperto recentemente a New Orleans. Amo particolarmente il repertorio e non c'è nulla che superi "Down by the Riverside". Assolutamente magnifico.
04. Sly and the Family Stone - There's a Riot Going On (Epic Records - 1971).
Musica bellissima, infernale, selvaggia... veramente strana. On the Corner di Miles Davis, realizzato un anno dopo, vi attinge generosamente...
05. Various Artists - Dancehall, the Rise of Jamaican Dancehall Culture (Soul Jazz Records - 2008).
Adoro la musica giamaicana, c'è voluto del tempo prima di frequentare le sale da ballo, ma sto incominciando a farci l'abitudine.
06. Dr. John - Gris Gris (Atlantic Records - 1968).
Un altro esempio di avant-r&b (come There's a Riot Going On). Dr. John è un musicista molto più consistente e profondo di quanto pensassi.
07. Lee Perry and the Upsetters - Ape-ology (Trojan Records - 2007).
Un altro disco che avrebbe dovuto essere popolare ma è intriso di super-avanguardia con un linguaggio perlomeno strano. Lee Perry è un altro musicista creatore di mondi del tutto personali.
08. Archie Shepp - Mama Too Tight (Impulse! - 1966).
Abbastanza curiosamente è quasi la stessa strumentazione dei Fight the Big Bull. Grandi musicisti, grandi esecuzioni, grandi composizioni. Il blues.
09. Gil Evans and His Orchestra - There Comes a Time (RCA - 1975).
Il mio preferito tra i dischi scoperti quest'anno. Adoro l'uso del sintetizzatore e credo che questa sia musica sontuosa e selvaggia.
10. Various Artists - Shona Mbira Music (Nonesuch - 1977).
Semplicemente meraviglioso.
