Tim Ray Trio: Windows
Il pianista Tim Ray è noto soprattutto per le collaborazioni con protagonisti della musica pop (Lyle Lovett, Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt) piuttosto che con jazzmen (Gary Burton, Esperanza Spalding, Phil Woods, Dave Douglas, Brian Blade, Lewis Nash) o con organici classici come la Boston Classical Orchestra.


Professore associato al Berklee College of Music ha prodotto solo tre album in due decenni, dalle concezioni sempre diverse, ed ora pubblica una bella incisione con suo stabile trio comprendente John Lockwood al contrabbasso e Mark Walker alla batteria.
L'organico condivide in pieno l'estetica mainstream pur spaziando tra vari stili, per rendere omaggio ad alcuni grandi pianisti di cui interpreta famosi brani.

Il percorso musicale inizia con l'ellingtoniano "I'm Beginning to See the light" rivisitato in chiave funky e dopo un dinamico omaggio a Thelonious Monk ("Monk's Dream") mostra doti introspettive con il classico di Herbie Hancock "Toys."
Il percorso successivo continua alternando esecuzioni ricche di drive, come "De-Train," ad altre introspettive come "Dolphin Dance" (con Lockwood protagonista all'archetto) e "Peace" oppure la danzante ballad "So Tender." Non poteva mancare un omaggio di Tim Ray a Lyle Lovett, con l' estroversa "I've Been to Memphis."
Un disco riuscito, che evidenzia l'inventivo pianismo del leader e la ricca coesione del collettivo
