Interessante lavoro sugli standard da parte di questo duo voce e piano/wurlitzer non convenzionale ma pienamente centrato.
02. Johnathan Blake -Gone, but Not Forgotten (Criss Cross -2014).
Tributo ad alcuni grandi musicisti scomparsi recentemente e alle loro composizioni. Grandi interpretazioni da parte di tutti (Ben Street, Mark Turner, Chris Potter).
03. Jochen Rueckert -We Make the Rules (Whirlwind Recordings -2014).
Grandi composizioni e splendide esecuzioni in un'altra band guidata da un batterista, con Mark Turner, Lage Lund and Matt Penman.
04. Shostakovitch, Violin Concerto, Mitropoulos/Oistrakh (Columbia -1956).
È la prima registrazione di questo pezzo sorprendente. Come sorprendente è l'esecuzione. Si può vedere un live su youtube registrato il giorno prima del disco.
05. U2 -Songs of Innocence (Apple -2014).
Si è caricato gratis sul mio iTunes, così l'ho ascoltato un poco, ma niente a che vedere con i vecchi U2 che ho amato.
06. Billy Hart Quartet -One Is the Other (ECM -2014).
Gran disco del batterista con la sua band storica. Secondo me è il miglior Mark Turner mai sentito su disco.
07. Henry Threadgill Sextet -Just the Facts and Pass the Bucket (About Time -1983).
Grande classico tra i dischi registrati da Threadgill negli anni ottanta, consigliatomi da Ethan Iverson.
08. Grachan Moncur III -Some Other Stuff (Blue Note -1964).
Esecuzioni vibranti da un cast stellare (Wayne, Herbie, Cecil McBee and Tony). Il solo di Wayne Shorter, nel primo brano intitolato "Gnostic" mi fa venire la pelle d'oca. Me l'ha consigliato Danny Grissett.
09. Ray Charles -Betty Carter (1962 -ristampa Rhino abbinata a Dedicated to You).
Non mi stanco mai di ascoltare questo disco, in particolar modo le ballad. Presenta inoltre la sorprendente resa sonora tipica delle registrazioni effettuate negli anni cinquanta e sessanta.
10. Greg Tuohey -First (Autoprodotto -2013).
Un gran disco dal mio vecchio partner nei Flipside. Grandi composizioni, vibrazioni uniche, musicisti di cui sentiremo parlare. Uno dei dischi più piacevoli ascoltati da molto tempo a questa parte.
