Welcome to the 900th episode of Neon Jazz! After 14 incredible years, we've hit yet another milestone—one that wouldn't be possible without the legends who have shaped jazz and the fans who've supported us every step of the way. For this special hour, we take a deep dive into the icons who have defined the sound of jazz and graced our interview series. We begin with the saxophone giant Sonny Rollins, featuring music from his brand-new 2024 album The Complete Prestige Recordings. From there, we swing into the great Count Basie, as Kansas City prepares to celebrate Basie at 90 on International Jazz Day 2025, culminating in a historic performance by the Count Basie Orchestra at The Music Hall. But that's just the beginning—we also revisit the timeless artistry of: Carla Bley, Randy Weston, Diane Schuur, Phil Woods, Sheila Jordan, Joe Lovano and Dr. Lonnie Smith. And to close it all out, we honor the legendary Hubert Laws, one of the very first jazz greats to be interviewed on Neon Jazz back in 2012. This is more than just a show—it's a tribute to the timelessness of jazz and the unwavering spirit of the musicians who keep it alive. So sit back, turn it up, and dig this legendary hour of music, my friends. Thank you for 14 incredible years of jazz, stories, and soul. Here's to the next 900!
