All About Jazz's curated radio and podcast lineup continues to grow. We've added two new programs and welcomed back Monk Rowe's Jazz Backstory for its fifth season. New additions include Daniel Peck's Live At The Bop Stop and pianist Mike Jones's The Stereo Image. That brings the total number of shows presented on All About Jazz to 28, with several airing each week. You can listen from the radio section on our home page or from the Radio & Podcast landing page. The brilliant Brazilian multi-instrumentalist and singer Ricardo Bacelar joins forces with two Grammy-nominated legends of contemporary jazz—Airto Moreira and Flora Purim—for a stunning rendition of "Aqui, Oh!," written by the great guitarist Toninho Horta and originally recorded by Milton Nascimento.
Airto, who will be honored as an NEA (National Endowment for the Arts) Jazz Master in April 2026, is widely regarded as one of the most influential percussionists in jazz history. He has recorded iconic albums as a leader for CTI, Artista and Warner, and has also appeared as a sideman with Miles Davis, Chick Corea (as a founding member of the original Return to Forever), Carlos Santana, George Benson, Freddie Hubbard, Eumir Deodato, Hubert Laws, Keith Jarrett, Joni Mitchell and many more.
For her part, Flora Purim was widely acclaimed as one of the most innovative jazz singers of the 1970s and was voted DownBeat magazine's "Best Female Singer" for five consecutive years. In addition to a series of best-selling solo albums for Milestone, Warner and Concord, she has collaborated with Dizzy Gillespie, Jaco Pastorius, Herbie Hancock, Gil Evans, George Duke, Joe Sample, Mickey Hart, Duke Pearson and Stan Getz, among others. Purim received her third Grammy nomination in 2022 for the album If You Will.
The single, along with two upcoming albums by Flora Purim and Airto Moreira scheduled for release in 2026, is produced by Ricardo Bacelar. The project is accompanied by a documentary film directed by the award-winning filmmaker Jom Tob Azulay, capturing behind-the-scenes footage of the recordings at Bacelar's state-of-the-art Jasmin Studios in Fortaleza, Brazil.
John Bishop has spent the past 50 years traversing a jazz landscape that has been in a state of constant change. The music has continued to evolve at a rate one might expect from art in general, while the business end of it has seen radical change that most would consider a state of de-evolution. As a jazz drummer, record label principal, and all-around entrepreneur, he has ridden the wave of massive change within a philosophical framework rooted in honesty, personal integrity, and genuine caring for the art form. He stresses that how he goes about things in essence, hasn't changed since he moved to Seattle at the age of 22. Founded in 2017 by musician and producer Angelo Mastronardi, GleAM Records is an independent Italian label and music publisher based near Lecce. What began as a jazz-focused venture has since expanded to embrace a broad spectrum of recordings, from new artists and modern post-bop to experimental jazz and live sessions. Archival reissues and unreleased tape also form a major part of the label's framework, beginning in 2023 with the audio restoration and remastering of Modern Art Trio by Franco D'Andrea (1971). GleAM also has a strong foothold in music for the moving image, with productions spanning cinema, television, video games and advertising. Operating from its southern Italian base, GleAM offers its artists comprehensive support at every stage—from artwork creation and intellectual property protection through to printing and international distribution. Freewheeling, versatile, and razor sharp, Meg Okura brought her Pan Asian Chamber Jazz Ensemble to The Jazz Gallery on Thursday, February 19th in support of both the group's newly released fifth album Isaiah and the 20th anniversary of the group's formation. The entire set—one of two this night—focused exclusively on Okura's originals from Isaiah and culminated with an appearance from special guest and legendary trumpeter, Randy Brecker. Each of the show's seven selections showcased Okura's tightly honed skills as a visionary, imaginative bandleader and orchestrator with interests in cross-pollinating styles and practices from different musics across the planet.
