John Pizzarelli Celebrates Sinatra-Jobim

A few readers may recall a triumphant 1967 recording with Frank Sinatra singing and performing alongside legendary composer Antonio Carlos Jobim. The album, with arrangements by master arranger Claus Ogerman globally transported Brazilian music into stratospheric heights where it remains to the present day.

To celebrate the album's semicentennial anniversary world-renowned singer/ guitarist John Pizzarelli is set to release Sinatra & Jobim @ 50. Performing with Pizzarelli is Jobim's grandson Daniel Jobim. The two have previously worked together during Pizzarelli's annual Café Carlyle stint with illustrious Brazilian musicians drummer Duduka Da Fonseca and pianist Helio Alves who also appear on the new Concord CD. Both the Sinatra disc and the new Pizzarelli effort were recorded in three-day sessions and the music of the former Billboard chart- topping album is impressively replicated on this anniversary edition.

Daniel Jobim is John's duet partner on "Agua de Beber," "Bonita," and "Dindi" together with a medley of "Meditation" and "Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars." An album highlight is "Two Kites" from grandfather Jobim's immortal Terra Brasilis album which featured John's father Bucky Pizzarelli in an uncredited performance.

Pizzarelli's long list of critically acclaimed recording successes (his recent Midnight McCartney hit a new chart high reaching No. 4 on Billboard's Jazz Albums list) has covered most composing and performing stalwarts of the past century (from Cole Porter and George Gershwin to Duke Ellington and James Taylor) and inside discussions of these excursions can be heard on the syndicated radio show Radio Deluxe with John Pizzarelli which he hosts with his wife singer Jessica Molaskey.
