This week, we're featuring the Jazz Continuum Latin Edition. Let's dive into some Latin sounds from NYC, starting with Pete Rodriguez's "I Like It (I Like It Like That)," followed by the Joe Cuba Sextet and Nuyorican percussionist Ray Barretto. We'll also spotlight two albums from this weekend in history: Kenny Dorham's Afro-Cuban (1955) and McCoy Tyner's Sama Yayuca (1974). The program continues with works by Eddie Harris, The Lewis Express, Ramsey Lewis, Tito Puente, Orquesta Akokán, Hilton Ruiz, Mongo Santamaria, Jonathan Powell, and Hilario Duran, leading into a set of mid-'50s tracks from Erroll Garner, Pete Rugolo and His Orchestra, and The Joe Loco Quintet. Next, enjoy a suite from the Kenny Clarke/Francy Boland Big Band, titled "Cuban Fever." We'll wrap up with a ballad from Aymée Nuviola and a new track from Dafnis Prieto's Sí o Sí Quartet.Tags
