The son of renowned salsero Pete “El Conde” Rodríguez and godson Dr. Pete Rodriguezof Fania Records bandleader Johnny Pacheco, the younger Rodríguez cut his teeth backing up some of the greatest names in Latin music. He became his father’s musical director at the age of 19. Pete Rodriguez: El Conde Negro

Read "El Conde Negro" reviewed by Dan Bilawsky

Pete Rodriguez isn't a purist. He knows his salsa, as one would expect of the offspring of famed salsa vocal icon Pete “El Conde" Rodriguez, and he knows his jazz. But this trumpeter-vocalist sees no need to draw strong separation between the two. In creating El Conde Negro, Rodriguez mines Nuyorican musical veins and jazz lodes, ...

Meet Billy Carrion Jr: I've been around music since I was in my mother's womb. My dad-- singer, Billy Carrion Sr. --would play sounds of Batacumbele through headphones over my mom's belly. Read "Long Live Boogaloo: Rare Latin Boogaloos from Spanish Harlem 1963-'72" reviewed by Chris M. Slawecki

Long Live Boogaloo captures rare and sometimes underground Latin boogaloo, traditional Cuban music shot up like steroids with James Brown and other hard-driving R&B sounds, which emerged from Spanish Harlem in the 1960s, compiled by producer Bobby Marin for Secret Stash.Even if this Boogaloo can sometimes sounds anachronistic, it still sounds vibrant and alive. ...

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
