01. Susanne Abbuehl - Compass (ECM - 2006). Amo la serenità del canto di Susanne. Anche April, il suo album precedente, è uno dei miei preferiti.

02. Ben Allison - Cowboy Justice (Palmetto - 2006)> Questo è l’ultimo CD di Ben, con Ron Horton (tromba), Steve Cardenas (chitarra) e Jeff Ballard (batteria) - alcuni dei miei musicisti preferiti e tra le persone che amo di più. In questo CD suonano nuove composizioni di Ben insieme a "Theme from Midnight Cowboy" di John Barry.

03. Ed Blackwell Trio - Walls/Bridges (Black Saint - 1997). Questo doppio CD registrato dal vivo nel 1992 con Dewey Redman (sax tenore) e Cameron Brown (basso), composto da standard e da originali, permette a questi fantastici improvvisatori di esprimersi al meglio.

04. Ran Blake - David Fabris - Indian Winter (Soul Note - 2005). Ran Blake ha uno stile unico con echi di Monk, gospel e Hitchcock; è veramente un originale. David “Knife” Fabris aggiunge la sua chitarra elettrica a questo mix di originals di Blake e brani di Stevie Wonder, Duke Ellington, Frank Zappa, Ray Charles, Enrico Rava, Kurt Weill ed altri.

05. Jimmy Giuffrè - Night Dance (Candid - 1973/2002). Questo intimo set di composizioni di Giuffrè è stato registrato nel 1973 e edito in CD nel 2002. Giuffrè suona il sax tenore e il flauto in aggiunta al suo solito clarinetto, accompagnato da Kiyoshi Tokunaga al basso e Randy Kaye alla batteria.

06. Andrew Hill - Time Lines (Blue Note - 2006) con Charles Tolliver (tromba), Greg Tardy (sax tenore e clarinetto basso), John Hebert (basso) and Eric McPherson (batteria). Questo è l’ultimo CD di Andrew, le composizioni sono enigmatiche e sensuali, con molto spazio per l’improvvisazione ed ottimamente interpretate con il suo quinetteo regolare.

07. Keith Jarrett - Radiance (ECM - 2006). Sovrumana esibizione al pianoforte, completamente improvvisata, ma più breve delle sue solite escursioni di 45 minuti. Molto differente dalla maggior parte delle sue registrazioni in solo; è un ascolto molto gratificante.

08. Charles Lloyd - Sangam (ECM - 2006). Questa è la registrazione del primo concerto dato dal trio con Zakir Hussain ed Eric Harland. Alcuni dei brani provengono da lavori precedenti, ma con questo gruppo ricevono un trattamento differente. Il trio suona in modo assai organico, con alcune gradite sorprese.

09. Paul Motian - Garden of Eden (ECM - 2006). Questo gruppo deriva dall’Electric Bebop Band, e ha preso ora il nome di Paul Motian Band. Con tre chitarristi, due sassofonisti, una chitarra basso, il suono del gruppo è maggiormente orchestrale, ma mai disordinato.

10. Tethered Moon - Experiencing Tosca (Winter & Winter - 2004). Questo non è un album di Puccini ma piuttosto musica improvvisata ispirata dalla Tosca di Puccini. Masabumi Kikuchi suona enigmatico e astratto come sempre, ed è magnificamente accompagnato da Gary Peacock e Paul Motian.
