I've often tried to make the last show of a year a little different. Doing a special on ECM is an idea I've had for a while, and things finally came together to do it for 2022. I've always figured I had a great number of ECM releases in my collection, and when I started culling the herd in preparation for a move to a smaller residence, I realized I had way more than I thought. Then I got the new Art Ensemble Of Chicago release, "The Sixth Decade: Paris To Paris," which recalls the AEC's momentous trip to Paris in 1969, an immensely influential event in creative music. And so has been the existence of ECM Records, founded in 1969. And I got my turntable repaired. The result is this 5 plus hours special of nothing but music from ECM albums and a minimum of chatter, not chronological, just programmed by my ears, memories and because it was "there."
