Colpisce dapprima la strumentazione con una piccola sezione di archi, chitarra elettrica compresa, più batteria e sassofono. Poi durante l'ascolto è lo strano miscuglio di musica popolare, idioma jazzistico, musica da ballo, frammenti ambient, melodie folk, sparate free a scompigliare le carte. Viola e violoncello sono tutt'altro che decorativi, con incursioni anche violente sui registri acuti, il contrabbasso spesso archettato aggiunge la potenza necessaria, la chitarra passa disinvoltamente da coloriture country con l'uso della slide ad acide macchie timbriche, il sassofono detta spesso la melodia

I sei musicisti tedeschi non si fanno problemi di sorta a combinare, anche all'interno di uno stesso brano, atmosfere e situazioni differenti, e ciò avviene con molta naturalezza, senza spacconerie o effetti mirabolanti, ma con buon gusto e semplicità. Ci sono momenti di pura bellezza tra le undici tracce del disco, altri spiritosi, altri ancori sorprendenti. Manca il colpo d'ala, quello che di solito fa decollare l'intero CD, e non tutto è perfettamente a fuoco ma, non di meno, Skykptn's 28 è disco che si ascolta con piacere.
