E' una compilation di lavori di Olly Wilson, Alvin Elliot Singleton, Wendel Logan, Tania Leon, Thomas Jefferson Anderson, Anthony Davis. E' da poco tempo che ho scoperto Tania Leon e Alvin Singleton, due sorprendenti compositori contemporanei. Anche il resto dell’album è magnifico.
02 Alvin Singleton - Sing to the Sun (Albany Records - 2007).
Una grande fonte di ispirazione.
03. On the Verge: Chamber Music of Sebastien Currier (Koch International Classics - 2007).
Sebastien è un compositore veramente innovativo che ha recentemente vinto il prestigioso Grawemeyer.
04. Craig Taborn - Junk Magic (Thirsty Ear - 2004).
Provate ad ascoltarlo! E' qualcosa di assolutamente sorprendente. Craig ha suonato qualche volta nel mio quartetto ed è pazzesco!
05. Living Legends - Almost Famous (Legendary Music - 2000).
Cosa posso dirvi? Uno dei gruppi hip-hop della scena underground che preferisco.
06. John Coltrane - Live Trane: The European Tours (Pablo - 1961).
Questo è uno dei più spaventosi lavori di Coltrane in circolazione. Commovente, istintivo, intellettuale. C'e' tutto in sette dischi. Sto ascoltando a ripetizione il disco 5.
07. Bunky Green - Places We've Never Been (Vanguard - 1979).
E' uno degli album che ascoltavo maggiormente quando frequentavo il college. Qualche tempo fa ho scoperto che è stato una delle influenze principali di Steve Coleman; da allora siamo diventati grandi amici. L’abum è disponibile su iTunes così ritorna frequentemente nei miei ascolti.
08. Joe Henderson - In Japan (OJC - 1971).
Uno degli album di Joe Henderson che preferisco. L’altro giorno hanno suonato un brano sulla stazione della Columbia University WKCR e mi è venuta voglia di riascoltare l’intero disco. Joe è veramente ispirato!! Ascoltate “Junk Blues“.
09. John Cage - Cage: Works for Prepared Piano (Col Legno - 1998).
Inventivo e innovativo. I suoni e le atmosfere create da Cage sono stupefacenti.
10. Ornette Coleman - Sound Grammar (Sound Grammar - 2006).
Adoro Ornette e sono convinto che avrebbe dovuto ricevere I giusti riconoscimenti parecchio tempo addietro.
11. ... E poi tutti i cds che mi vengono dati dopo i concerti. Si, lì ascolto propri tutti!
