Il suo ultimo trio è schiacciato dal ricordo mitologico di quello con Motian e La Faro, ma Marc Johnson e Joe LaBarbera furono eccellenti partner e seppero arricchire gli ultimi anni di Evans aderendo a loro modo alla sua visione dell'interplay, che ammorbidiva la ripartizione dei ruoli propria del classico piano trio senza perdere swing. Una lezione poco capita dai troppi epigoni, soprattutto europei, del pianista, che non era certo un bluesman, ma aveva un tocco in grado di passare dalla filigrana ad accentazioni percussive piazzate sul tempo con feeling ineccepibile.
Il concerto inedito qui pubblicato (ottobre 1979) lo trova immerso in un repertorio tipico di quegli anni (vari brani originali, il consueto "Theme from M.A.S.H.," qualche prezioso standard, un assaggio pop con "I Do It for Love" di Paul Simon), Evans converte il dolore in luminosa ispirazione, allontana il fantasma cupo della tossicodipendenza e regala un ulteriore esempio della sua arte.
Non guastano la qualità della registrazione e le accurate note di copertina.
