Sto scrivendo una piece teatrale intitolata "The Separation", che incorpora parti improvvisate su questi bellissimi brani per organo. E’ la musica per organo più intensa e originale che abbia mai ascoltato. Chi è più metal di Messianen?
02. Cypress Hill - Till Death Do Us Part (Columbia - 2004).
Grande disco. Beat profondo, molto semplice e attraente. Me li ha fatti conoscere Jamie Saft.
03. Guillaume Dufay - Missa Sancti Jacobi (Hyperion - 1998).
Il mio compositore preferito di quell’epoca. Scarno, semplice ma assolutamente splendido. Uno dei suoi primi lavori, non viene nemmeno considerato tra le sue cose migliori, ma risplende di luce meravigliosa. L’ho riarrangiato per "The Separation".
04. Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power (Atlantic - 1992).
Li ho conosciuti troppo tardi. Grande band metal ricchi di melodia!
05. Bad Brains - Banned in DC (Caroline - 2003).
La classica cult-band, non sono mai diventati famosi, probabilmente perchè sono troppo bravi.
06. Sinéad O'Connor - Throw Down Your Arms (That's why there's chocolate and vanilla - 2005).
Ho visto questo gruppo a New York con Sly and Robbie e Burning Spear. Mi hanno steso. Sinead è grande, una vera artista, non un’invenzione dello star-system.
07. Serge Gainsbourg - De Gainsbourg À Gainsbarre (Polygram - 1998).
Divento matto per questo tipo di musica leggera. Credo che si riferisca ai primi Anni Sessanta.
08. Yusef Lateef - Live at Pep's (Impulse - 1964).
09. Roland Kirk - The Inflated Tear (Warner - 1968).
Entrambi questi dischi hanno il significato di controbilanciare il precedente. Lateef è assai sottovalutato. Un maestro. Allo stesso modo di Kirk.
10. Mulatu Astatqé - Ethiopiques 4: Ethio Jazz & Musique Instrumentale 1969-1974 (Buda Musique - 1998).
Mi piacerebbe avere il coraggio di fare un disco come questo: semplice, quasi ingenuo, stonato e brillante.
