Viviane Houle: Treize

La cantante canadese Viviane Houle ci regala un album veramente emozionate dove la voce si fa strumento e le schegge impazzite di vetro incandescente, proiettate dalla sua laringe, viaggiano a mille all'ora come corpi contundenti che rischiano di forare tutte le membrane che ci separano dalla cruda realtà.

La sue corde vocali scalpitano e vibrano, accompagnate in ognuna delle tredici tracce che compongono questo Treize (per l'appunto) da uno strumentista diverso scelto fra la crema dei nuovi improvvisatori canadesi, principalmente operanti a Vancouver. Dalla violoncellista Peggy Lee al chitarrista Ron Samworth, dal pianista Paul Plimley al geniale Stefan Smulovitz impegnato a trarre dal suo computer sulfuree grumosità iper dilatate e recursive. Lo fa utilizzando il software dedicato 'Kenaxis' che consente loop e manipolazioni in tempo reale. Un software che si può scaricare dal sito del produttore, sia per PC che per Mac.

Le sezioni più sperimentali di questo album (e sono davvero tante) ci portano dalle parti di Demetrio Stratos, Meredith Monk, Cathy Berberian e Joan La Barbera, mentre i momenti più rarefatti e raffinati (per esempio il secondo brano "Molehills Mumps"), sono straordinariamente evocativi del mondo (incantato e iper-reale allo stesso tempo) di Annette Peacock. La Houle sembra avere la stessa tessitura vocale della grande sperimentatrice americana e persino certe inflessioni vocali tipiche di Annette ricompaiono come per magia nelle declamazioni della canadese Houle.

Viviane e Annette, decisamente due donne fuori da ogni convenzione. Dio le abbia in gloria.
