Dopo aver studiato a lungo in Italia con maestri quali D'Andrea o Pieranunzi oltre che negli USA, Tamburrino has consolidato una conoscenza molto ampia del linguaggio jazzistico che emerge fin dal "Thanks for the Riff" che apre il disco e dà il titolo all'album. Le raffinateze armoniche si susseguono insieme a invenzioni melodiche interessanti e atmosfere classicheggianti, dando vita ad un piacevole cocktail di standards e brani originali, fra novità e tradizione. Verso la fine del disco si trovano atmosfere più libere: "2010 Itinerary" e "Free Impro," ci rivelano un nuovo aspetto della poetica del leader, prima di chiuder con il famoso evergreen "Body and Soul".
