La nuova etichetta S'Ard music aggiunge con Suondscape, disco pregevole e ricercato, a nome dello Stefano D'Anna Quartet, un altro interessante capitolo al proprio catalogo.

Attorno al suono liquido, caldo, controllato e amabilmente swingante del sassofono di Stefano D'Anna si realizzano sette convincenti e appassionate tracce.
I temi sono incisivi e costruiti non di rado in forma dialettica, in un gioco in cui s'intrecciano e si fondono—ben oltre le parti espositive—sassofono e chitarra.

Sin dal brano d'apertura, "SML," emerge la compattezza del gruppo, che trova nella chiarezza del sound, nella consonanza espressiva e nella capacità di saper creare una cornice di riferimento attorno ai solisti (sassofono e chitarra soprattutto) i cardini dell'intero progetto.
A brani più colti e raffinati—per non dire eruditi, nel senso che condensano tratti di modernariato jazzistico—come "Passaggio" e l'intensa ballad "New Two," si alternano tradizionali swing ("Soul Town") e un blues su tempo in sette ("Blues Siete")—apparentemente anomalo—ispirato a criteri strutturali consolidati.

D'Anna suona in maniera legata e fluida, con timbro insieme pieno e discreto. Il senso ritmico del suo sassofono è icastico e determinante, e produce un elevato grado di pulsazione, al punto che se nell'album ci fosse stata una traccia in solo, sarebbe stata—ipoteticamente—non solo consonante al progetto ma anche un'interessante elemento di novità. A sostenere pregevolmente D'Anna sono il contrabbassista Matteo Marongiu, il batterista Giancarlo Manca e la chitarra di Enrico Bracco.

Soundscape non è un disco iconoclasta, persegue semplicemente un fine declinatorio modernista che discende direttamente da dischi come Freedom Suite di Sonny Rollins.
