The alto saxophonist Lou Donaldson came close to celebrating his centennial, but missed it by a couple of years, passing in 2024 Early in his career, he was a Charlie Parkerr disciple, recording on a number of historic sessions with Thelonious Monk, Art Blakey, Jimmy Smith and Clifford Brown. Donaldson developed a bluesdrenched style which he played for six decades.
