At a very young age Julian Lage had already gained recognition from well-known guitarists and jazz musicians (including Santana and Gary Burton) and became a protégé of Jim Hall, one of the most influential masters of the jazz guitar. These days Julian Lage himself is considered a leading guitarist. He plays with Chris Thile on his radio show "Live from Here," the follow-up to the legendary "Praire Home Companion," and he regularly works with an influential artist like John Zorn. Last June, Julian Lage was voted 'Rising Star Jazz Artist' in the Downbeat Critics Poll 2018.

His recent album, Modern Lore, was inspired by the time when country, jazz and rock 'n' roll were in their wild-west period, when people were dancing and singing to it, according to the American guitarist who took up the timeless Fender Telecaster for this recording. Still, the music sounds contemporary, thanks to the unadorned sound and the catchy double bass and drum grooves.

Personnel: Julian Lage: guitar; Jorge Roeder: bass; Eric Doob: drums.
