MELT sta per Musical Energy and Loud Truth e M.E.L.T. 2000 è l'etichetta discografica fondata in Sud Africa da uno svizzero, Robert Trunz, intraprendente produttore discografico che sta contribuendo alla visibilità della musica sudafricana, che - grazie alle molteplici influenze derivate dai suoi vari gruppi etnici e dall'apertura verso il jazz e altre influenze internazionali - è sicuramente una delle più eclettiche del mondo.

Abbiamo deciso di approfondire l'argomento recensendo i dischi di due grandi jazzisti che purtroppo ci hanno lasciato prima di ottenere i riconoscimenti che meritavano: il chitarrista Johnny Fourie e il pianista Moses Taiwa Molelekwa. Ed anche CD e DVD che rispecchiano la ricchezza delle radici sudafricane di Amampondo, Brice Wassy, Bafo Bafo, Robert "Doc" Mthalane, Max Lasser's Madamax, L.A.P., Madosini, Pops Mohamed, e i legami tra musica sudafricana e cubana di Fidel Mpondo.

E mentre stavamo lavorando su questo speciale sudafricano, siamo anche andati a vedere che cosa combinava a Bologna la Donald Kachamba's Kwela Heritage Jazzband, invitata al festival Suoni dal Mondo.
