Herself: God is a Major
È un disco spoglio come l’inverno. Scarno, minimale, sofferto e strategicamente ambiguo. Da quando il rock è alla deriva - vedere alla voce “post”, “alt” e dintorni - le armonie sono un optional insignificante, la cura del suono un particolare inutile. È l’ombra, l’oscurità e la logica lo-fi a fare la differenza. In tutti i sensi (“Hidden”, “Waterline”, “Julie 2, by the Lake”).

Non diversamente dai prototipi di certo indie americano, Geole Valenti, alias Herself, da Palermo, costruisce il suo secondo album (a due anni da Please Please Please Leave Me Now) ad immagine e somiglianza di tanta gente che ai più potrà dire davvero poco. Le citazioni a volte possono essere davvero fuorvianti e poi chi se ne frega se questo o quell’altro brano sembrano davvero vicino a Tizio e Caio?

Basta una chitarra, qualche insert elettronico, una voce sospirata e uno studio di registrazione casalingo. Non sarà più una rivoluzione, ma almeno il risultato ci stregherà per un attimo. Come in una seduta psicanalitica e l’inverno del discontento sarà con voi.

Il gusto “acerbo” della musica.
