Jerry Bergonzi: Extra Extra
Il fatto che sia nato (a Boston) nel 1947 ci dice come questo percorso, il Nostro, l'abbia compiuto per intero, militando nei gruppi di Dave Brubeck a cavallo fra anni Settanta e primi Ottanta per poi spiccare il volo in proprio, affermandosi appunto come uno dei riferimenti primari (con Michael Brecker, Steve Grossman, Bob Berg e qualche altro) del sax tenore di scuolacome dicevamopost-moderna (solo come dato puramente cronologico, ovviamente).
Questo suo ultimo lavoro, inciso nel gennaio 2023 alla testa di un quartetto molto agguerrito, che diventa quintetto in tre brani su otto, non fa che confermare in pieno tale magistero "di scuola," anche se la presenza della chitarra in luogo del più prevedibile pianoforte aggiunge una punta di attualitàse così possiamo direal sound d'insieme. Ogni cosa procede quindi a dovere, per una ripassata di come si possa suonare un jazz certo non proteso verso il futuro (ma in fondo neppure verso il presente) a eccellenti livelli. A molti questo basta.
