Chiara Liuzzi: Elica

Curioso lavoro ispirato da una dimensione percettiva del suono attraverso un approccio olistico, Elica si basa su esperienze sinestetiche multisensoriali dei musicisti che dovrebbero tradursi in musica attraverso l'improvvisazione. Così, "Immergo" scaturisce dalla percezione olfattiva del curry, "Gusto" e "Grani" da quella gustativa rispettivamente di cioccolata fusa e di taralli, pecorino sardo con miele e primitivo di Manduria, "Ali" da quella tattile di tappi in metallo e plastica, e via dicendo.

Se l'esperimento funzioni o meno, o anche se abbia oppure no una sua sensatezza, è difficile deciderlo dall'ascolto del CD. Il quale ha molteplici riferimenti anche quanto a ispirazioni più strettamente musicali: i materiali a cui i quattro musicisti attingono variano dalla tradizione ebraica e irlandese fino alla musica classica, mentre i testi portano citazioni di Neruda e S. Giovanni della Croce. Il tutto, con molta improvvisazione.

Ne scaturisce alla fine una musica che appare più prossima a una world ventata di new age che non al jazz, sebbene in alcuni passaggi i suoni (specie dei clarinetti di Massaro e dell'oud di La Volpe) disegnino delle figure non aliene a un certo jazz centroeuropeo.

Un CD originale, che ha il pregio di rompere gli schemi e imporre un ripensamento durante e dopo l'ascolto.
