Fra cascami coltraniani, evidenti fin dalle prime note del brano iniziale (ma del resto fin dal nome dell'etichetta produttrice dell'album), e un linguaggio risciacquato anche in acque un po' più contemporanee, questo live album (incisione del dicembre 2023) del giovane tenorsassofonista (in altre occasioni anche sopranista) Ben Solomon ci offre una musica solida e ottimamente congegnata, anche se come si sarà intuito non attraversata da particolari tratti di originalità.

Il sassofonista e leader del quartetto (assolutamente coeso) parla di "una raccolta di brani nati negli ultimi anni come pezzi per pianoforte che ho poi adattato per quartetto, composti ispirandomi alla natura, alla simmetria e alla musica impressionista, non senza omaggi a giganti come John Coltrane (appunto) e Wayne Shorter." In realtà, poi, la matrice shorteriana vi si coglie molto in filigrana, essendo come detto la componente coltraniana assolutamente preponderante, sia nel suono del tenore che in quello dell'intero ensemble.

Tutto ciò non impedisce al CD di possedere un'assoluta dignità, quanto meno espositivo-interpretativa, e una totale padronanza del linguaggio scelto e praticato. Certo qualche pennellata più personale non avrebbe guastato. Confidiamo che il giovanotto ci faccia un pensierino per il futuro.
