It's baseball season—sort of—so I guess you could say this episode of OMJ touches a lot of bases. The NY underground scene gets explored a bit via 70's Loft pioneer Alan Braufman who has a new release, while more recent practitioners of the outside get sampled—Owl Xounds Exploding Galaxy and Scurvy. Today's Jaimie Branch is here too with Anteloper. There's some Afro-Cuban/Yoruba music from England, no less, in the person of tenor player Kevin Haynes, while fellow Brit veteran Trevor Watts contributes his pandemic-response of solo music. A somewhat unusual pairing is that of German woodwind maestro Steffen Schorn with the Norwegian Wind Ensemble AND Brazilian icon Hermeto Pascoal. And, as always, plenty more representing the international scope of creative improvised music.
