Ivars Arutyunyan
Ivars Arutyunyan is a musician and drummer from Latvia, known for his musical, dynamic and energetic approach. He started out his musical journey as a classical pianist and percussionist and later on moved to a career as a drummer. Throughout his career, Ivars has had the honor of sharing the stage with jazz legends and a diverse array of artists across various genres. He has collaborated with prominent figures such as Greg Osby, Seamus Blake, Logan Richardson, Carsten Dahl, Jerry Bergonzi, Anders Jormin, Latvian Radio Choir, indie artist Shipsea, Matīss Čudars to name a few.
Ivars’s artistry has not only graced numerous concert halls but has also been featured in many albums and radio/television broadcasts. His talent extends beyond performance; he has composed music for film and engaged in a variety of crossover art projects that merge music with theater and dance. This multidisciplinary approach has allowed him to explore new creative avenues and connect with diverse audiences while being firmly rooted in Afro-American tradition of jazz.
He has received several prestigious awards, including the Grand Music Award of Latvia in 2023 for Concert of the Year, the National Movie Award of Latvia in 2024 for Composer of the Year, and the Jazz Record of the Year in Latvia in 2024 and 2019. His accolades also include honors from esteemed festivals such as Jazz Hoeilaart (B Jazz), the Getxo Jazz Festival, and the Almeria Jazz Prize, Yamaha Drum Day etc.
A graduate of the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen. He has lived in Copenhagen and Paris, absorbing diverse musical influences, and is currently based in Berlin. Here, he continues to perform, tour extensively, and collaborate with fellow musicians, constantly pushing the boundaries of his musicality and craft.
