We didn't think it would happen but after a year of Covid lockdowns live jazz returned to Saratoga Springs New York. Celebrating it's 44th anniversary over the June 26th weekend, the 2021 Freihofer's Saratoga Jazz Festival at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center had a small but strong lineup with a wide range of music. Saturday's performances featured the Hot Club of Saratoga, pianist Joey Alexander, the amazing voice of Dianne Reeves, and Christian McBride with his quartet. Sunday's shows added to the mix with the soulful sounds of Garland Nelson's Joyful Noise and his Joyful Noise band, guitar virtuoso Al Di Meola, Artemis which featured Renee Rosnes, Allison Miller, Noriko Ueda, Ingrid Jensen and Cecile McLorin Salvant. The festival closed with Cecile McLorin Salvant and her trio. This collection of photos hopefully gives a glimpse of the sights and sounds of this wonderful festival.
