Saxopaths: Unfocused Welcomes
Il quartetto di sax è un terreno molto insidioso. Troppi sono i predecessori illustri, molto vincolante la configurazione strumentale, per riuscire ad essere davvero originali.

Il quartetto danese dei Saxopaths, attivo ormai da quattordici anni, ha scelto dunque una strada differente. Innanzitutto il repertorio che propongono non è prettamente jazzistico. Nell'album troviamo infatti canzoni tradizionali danesi, tanghi gotici, le atmosfere serbe di Goran Bregovic. Il che, in questi frangenti, aiuta sempre. E poi, intelligentemente, in alcuni brani i Saxopaths si fanno affiancare da altri musicisti che, con l'apporto del loro strumento (o della loro voce), contribuiscono ad arricchire la paletta espressiva del quartetto.

Il loro approccio al materiale musicale è a volte lirico, a volte energico, spesso ironico, sempre melodico e rigoroso, sebbene aperto alla più autentica improvvisazione. Un buon CD!
