Christopher Alpiar Quartet: The Jazz Expression
Il sax tenore lacera lo spazio con urla che arrivano dritte al cuore, attraverso cavalcate imponenti ma affatto ridondanti, così come sussurra dolcezze infinite. Batteria e contrabbasso alimentano un moto perpetuo di grande spessore mentre il pianoforte rischiara gli "sheets of sound" di coltraniana memoria con interventi timbricamente cristallini e senza disdegnare insolite spigolosità nella costruzione delle frasi.
La registrazione risale al lontano febbraio 1995 e mostra un quartetto assai ispirato che, nel solco di sassofonisti che hanno contribuito ha rinnovare il linguaggio dello strumento e del jazz in generale degli anni sessanta, ha saputo aggiornare quell'idioma jazzistico conservandone lo spirito originario.
