Lucia Fodde

Born:

Lucia Fodde was born in Sardinia, and from a young age, she had an unrestrained passion for music, taking piano lessons and participating in the church choir, showcasing her extraordinary ability to handle time and melody. She was significantly influenced by her jazz-loving father's vinyl record collection.
After a stint as a vocalist in the pop scene, Lucia wholeheartedly embraced jazz. As a leader, she embarked on projects in jazz trios and quartets, collaborating with various Italian and international artists. Lucia pursued a Jazz course at the prestigious Conservatorio di Musica in Cagliari, earning a diploma in "Vocal Jazz."

Over the years, Lucia has participated in masterclasses with luminaries such as Sheila Jordan and Rachel Gould, to name a few.

After a careful exploration of her musical journey, Lucia Fodde decided to move to Berlin in 2013, driven by a personal and artistic need for new stimuli. This relocation aimed to optimize her skills as a singer-songwriter and vocalist. In Berlin, she promptly became part of the local jazz scene, performing not only in the best jazz clubs in Berlin but also throughout Germany and internationally.

So far, Lucia has graced numerous prominent venues and festivals globally, including the SummerJazz Festival 2023 in Pinneberg, where she emerged victorious with her ensemble comprising Yuriy Seredin on piano, Giacomo Tagliavia on bass, and Jesus Vega on drums.

In 2012, Lucia Fodde released her debut album, "Just One Of Those Things," paying tribute to Cole Porter with the Lov'n Jazz Quartet of Cagliari (Paolo Carrus on piano, Massimo Tore on bass, Roberto Migoni on drums). The album developed a style that brought traditional arrangements into a modern jazz context, curated by Maestro Carrus.

After her move to Berlin, in 2018, Lucia presented the album "Freedom" at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival. Recorded at Greve Studio in Berlin, the album featured Davide Incorvaia (piano/synth), Giuseppe Bottiglieri (bass), Jesus Vega (drums), and Regis Molina (sax). "Freedom" is an exciting journey through Lucia's original compositions and some jazz standards, seamlessly weaving together swing, smooth jazz, ballads, and electronic elements with the virtuosity that characterizes Fodde's style.

In 2020, she released two new singles: "Colors," her first collaboration with Loomis Connell Green (guitar, arrangements) and Carmelo Leotta (bass), and "Inútil Paisagem," featuring Davide Incorvaia (piano synth). The latter revisited Jobim's beautiful piece, paying homage to Brazilian popular tradition in an electronic interpretation.

In June 2022, Lucia released the single "Dentro Questo Vento," a preview of the album "Traces of You," released in July 2022. The album was recorded at UFO Sound Studios in Berlin, featuring Davide Incorvaia (piano), Carmelo Leotta (bass, who also curated most of the arrangements), and Jesus Vega (drums).

Scheduled for release in 2024 is the new album "Harlem Beats," featuring an electric ensemble with Davide Incorvaia on piano/synth, Francesco Beccaro on bass, and Australians Aidan Lowe on drums and Greg Ambroisine on trumpet, completing the quintet. 'Harlem Beats' is proudly published by Timezone Records.

Lucia has been honored by the international magazine "All About Jazz" with the following accolades: On September 11, the song "Atras da porta" was chosen as "Song Of The Day"; on October 10, the song "Dentro questo vento" was selected as "Song Of The Day"; additionally, "Dentro questo vento" is among the top ten songs of October 2022, while "Atras da porta" is among the top 10 most listened to songs of 2022.

Jua

Born:

Incredible how it’s been over ten years since Jua Howard was making quite a name for himself in neo-soul circles, crooning in velvety tenor tones reminiscent of Luther Vandross and Donny Hathaway in clubs from New York City to London. “Anticipation”, his 2007 self-released debut CD of mostly original mid-tempo tunes and ballads, was picking up play on Smooth Jazz and R&B stations. Yet Jua, who uses only his first name professionally (Swahili for “sun”), was having second thoughts about his musical direction. The Chicago-born singer says, “With the R&B neo-soul scene, everything started to sound the same.” While living in the Washington D.C

Buzz Brooks

Born:

Buzz is a kind of a wacky dude who believes that "He who dies having laughed the most, wins." Bob Brooks acquired the nickname "Buzz" when, in his first band, circa 1967, he developed a reputation as a type-A, high-energy sort of fellow. Between the ages of 11 and 13, Buzz took piano lessons, and quit. Fortunately the piano teacher taught some ear training and theory, so that when an older friend started spinning 45s from the Stax and Motown labels, Buzz was able to decipher the chords. This led to a seven-year stint with an R & B show band called "300 Years", so named because they felt that it had taken 300 years here in the U.S. to get to the point where everyone in a multi-racial performing act could truly be on equal footing. When it was time to go to college, Buzz was accepted at Berklee School of Music in Boston, (and Boston U and Washington U) but he never attended because he had signed a contract with 300 Years and a talent agent in New York. So he went instead to Hofstra University for a semester or two before he had to drop out, due to 300 Years being on the road 265 days a year. During this era, 300 Years opened for Sly Stone, Deep Purple, Sam and Dave, King Curtis, the Manhattans, the Coasters, the Platters, the Chambers Brothers, Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge, the Spinners, the Trammps, Eddie Kendricks, the Stylistics, Isaac Hayes, the Ohio Players, Rufus with Chaka Khan, Kool and the Gang, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes and others. The group broke up in 1977, whereupon Buzz moved to San Francisco, and after a few years working as an expediter in the construction industry, he became a cab driver. Buzz has recently been the featured cab driver on a few broadcast TV shows in the Bay Area. In the 80s, Buzz dropped out of the music scene, bought a grand piano, and wrote a few things. In the 90s, seized by the itch to perform again, he played in blues bands in and around the Bay Area, and played as a sideman for an R & B revue. In the late 90s, Buzz came back once again to music, this time as a vocalist. He sang with the Skyline College Choir, then the City College Gospel Choir, and finally the Oakland Jazz Choir for four years. During this period he was also a featured vocalist with the City College Big Band. Buzz released his first CD in Dec. of 2005, "The Oenophile Anthem". For 13 years, right up until the pandemic,  he sang to tracks in his taxicab, which he called the Kabaret Kab of San Francisco. Disposed ~ 4K Cds that way, and was featured on the front page of the SF Chronicle twice. Currently Buzz is laughing about something somewhere. Perhaps it's his silly paraphrase of I Peter 4:8: "A little visual charity covers a multitude of audial sins." That is, sometimes it pays to misdirect the audience via the judicial use of artifice; specifically, histrionics, visual aids, and frequent doses of humor — to distract them from whatever performance deficiencies, real or imagined, they may perceive.
