Rino Arbore Quartet: Suggestions from Space

Fin dalle prime battute quel che colpisce di Suggestions from Space è il suono, o meglio, la ricerca sul suono. È vero, c'è attenzione verso la melodia, sempre presente anche quando non palesemente manifesta, vi sono frangenti nei quali il linguaggio jazzistico con i suoi codici e le sue regole non scritte prende il sopravvento, ma questo passa in secondo piano se l'ascolto avviene con mente libera e cuore aperto. E allora sono le suggestioni evocate nel titolo che agganciano l'ascoltatore e lo conducono per mano verso un mondo popolato di sogni e di viaggi in terre fantastiche.

La tromba del norvegese Roy Nikolaisen abbandona l'algida purezza che normalmente caratterizza l'approccio timbrico di molti suoi conterranei per offrire il suo carattere dolente e intimo ma in grado di esibire anche sprazzi di spigolosa incisività e di mediterranea cantabilità.

La chitarra del leader riduce al minimo la canonica funzione narrativa in favore della ricchezza timbrica, dell'espansione sonora che porta lo strumento elettrico ad assumere il ruolo di mutante alchimista con il contrabbasso di Giorgio Vendola e la batteria di Gianlivio Liberti ad assicurare una discreta e stimolante tessitura ritmica.
