Swallow/Talmor/Nussbaum: Singular Curves
Ma Singular Curves è tutto meno che una registrazione asettica e senz'anima, superficiale o eccessivamente intimista, perché bellezza ed emozioni palpitano nelle composizioni e negli strumenti. Le composizioni, a firma prevalente di Swallow e Talmor sono modelli di eleganza, forma e di logica e nello stesso tempo aperte al punto giusto per poter essere ravvivate e rilette dalla sensibilità dei musicisti. Gli strumenti sono colti nella loro essenza timbrica ed esaltati nella loro vena melodica.
Il basso a cinque corde di Swallow canta come una chitarra e sprigiona swing come un contrabbasso, con sonorità pastose e vellutate. Il sax tenore di Talmor è debitore della lezione di Lee Konitz, partner di lunga data e mentore del giovane sassofonista-arrangiatore di origine israeliana, fraseggio essenziale e lucidità di pensiero in primo piano. La batteria di Nussbaum è splendidamente morbida, mobile e propositiva, motore discreto di un trio circondato da un alone di classicità ma profondamente attuale.
