Songevity: See Dream Blues

L'inizio di See Dream Blues è un tuffo nel passato. Si viene proiettati in piena era bop, nell'atmosfera di quei locali fumosi e chiassosi, dove si soffiavano note all'ultimo respiro fino a portare l'eccitazione a livelli quasi insostenibili, e dove regnava la sensazione di essere al centro del mondo. E "Catch You Cats" prende avvio con tanto di speaker che introduce il gruppo, il tema esposto dai fiati, la sequenza degli assoli, la partecipazione attiva del pubblico che batte le mani, urla durante i passaggi più spericolati, si manifesta come parte attiva della registrazione.

In realtà tutto questo avviene nel luglio 2011 e nel maggio 2012 a New York, protagonista un sestetto guidato dal contrabbassita Rob Duguay (sue tutte le composizioni), dove le voci più conosciute sono quelle dei due sassofonisti Abraham Burton e Noah Preminger.

Ma se l'atmosfera evocata dal primo brano informa un po' tutta la registrazione è altrettanto vero che è il blues evocato dal titolo ad essere il protagonista, a volte palese a volte sotterraneo, di See Dream Blues. Con il quartetto che sa svincolarsi da cliché neoboppistici e mostra di aver assimilato la lezione sia del Miles modale che del Coltrane più classico attraverso una rielaborazione personale di sicuro effetto e di immediata comunicativa.
