Håkan Broström: Refraction
La musica contenuta nell'album - registrata nel febbraio 2008 - percorre un sentiero caratterizzato da un mainstream elegante, rotondo nelle melodie e sempre teso al raggiungimento dell'obiettivo di bellezza formale ed espressiva. Broström si lascia apprezzare per i soli che lo vedono figura primaria in diverse occasioni ("Catwalk"), per la buona fantasia compositiva degli originali e per l'intelligente lavoro di circostanza quando la scena è rapita dal pianismo di Calderazzo, autentico co-leader dell'incisione, pronto nel disegnare linee melodiche discrete e morbidissime che si alternano ad affondi tecnici intensi e carichi di enfasi.
L'album scorre via trovando i suoi momenti migliori sui tempi veloci ("Nothing Personal"), mentre nelle ballad sembra cedere a un manierismo di facciata, che non aggiunge granché a una seduta di registrazione dove gli interpreti sono riusciti a trovare un giusto equilibrio tra forma e sostanza, tecnica e poesia.
