Kevin Sun: Quartets
Due sedute di registrazione distinte, la prima datata 2022, la seconda 2023, due differenti quartetti, la classica suddivisione in brani strutturati tra tempi veloci e tempi lenti, temi di colonne sonore, un omaggio a Ryuichi Sakamoto e l'onnipresente "Estate" di Bruno Martino.
Niente di scontato, però, perchè nell'apparente prevedibilità del percorso e di un ancoraggio a stilemi consolidati, più volte presente, Sun e i suoi compagni di viaggio sono abili nel pilotare la musica con variazioni e deviazioni che la allontanano dal déjà vu, nel depistare l'ascolto attraverso graduali cambiamenti delle architetture sonore.
Maggiormente declinato verso la musica d'insieme e sul focus compositivo il primo CD, più vicino ad un mainstream illuminato con ampi spazi solistici il secondo, l'intero lavoro mostra la bravura di questo musicista, a proprio agio e in pieno controllo su qualsiasi materiale. Come dimostra la splendida versione di "Estate," prosciugata, ridotta all'osso, con un sax appena accennato ed il pianoforte che rilascia cristalline gocce di rugiada.
