Alla guida del suo trio, completato da Cindy Blackman alla batteria e Ron Jackson alla chitarra elettrica, l'organista newyorkese Greg Lewis dà alle stampe l'album di debutto Organ Monk, nel quale propone quindici brani tratti dal repertorio di Thelonious Monk, ponendo come linea di condotta principale, e imprescindibile, la figura melodica prodotta dal suono tipico dell'Hammond B-3.

Questo fa sì che da una parte emerge il lato caratteriale di un album dalle forti connotazioni vintage, apprezabile per chi ama le sonorità dell'Hammond ancor prima delle composizioni del seminale pianista; dall'altra - non risultando praticamente mai come fonti primarie gli interventi di Jackson e Blackman - Organ Monk sulla lunga distanza risulta essere monocorde e in alcuni passaggi decisamente scialbo.

È preferibile dunque approcciarlo con un ascolto random, per il quale ci sentiamo di segnalare l'iniziale "Trinkle Tinkle," giacata su ritmo veloce e caratterizzata dal dialogo tra leader e chitarra, "Light Blue," segnata da fascinose venature bluesy, e la swingante "Coming in the Hudson".
