Iconoclast: Naked Rapture

Se state per partire per le vacanze e volete portarvi dietro qualcosa di veramente forte e amate Frank Zappa, John Zorn e i Lounge Lizards allora gli Iconoclast fanno per voi.

Questo bizzarro e folle duo newyorchese formato da Julie Joslyn (sax alto, violino, voce, elettronica) e da Leo Ciesa (batteria, percussioni, tastiere e voce) ha appena dato alle stampe per la gloriosa e coraggiosa Fang Records il suo nono album, incluso il primo lavoro autoprodotto Sins of New York pubblicato su cassetta nel 1989.

Si tratta di Naked Rapture e siamo di fronte all'ennesima miscela di jazz hardcore, o meglio, parafrasando il titolo di un loro album del 2010, di dirty jazz ad altissimo volume: un muro del suono spiazzante che arriva a colpire padiglioni auricolari e centri nervosi dell'ascoltatore come un Frecciarossa lanciato ad oltre i 300 km/h. Una musica spigolosa, angolare e molto inquieta dalle forti connotazioni metropolitane, sarebbe una colonna sonora perfetta per un documentario underground su New York, che ha nel suo DNA tutta l'energia primordiale e rigeneratrice del punk.

Le 25 tracce contenute in Naked Rapture sono infatti schegge impazzite di un repertorio che va oltre generi e stili con i due newyorchesi che si cimentano anche alla voce in performance originali e, a volte, iperboliche. Come quella in stile Tom Waits di John Ciesa nella inquieta "When I'm Gone" o quella, ancora più destabilizzante, di Julie Joslyn in "Five Finger Bruised" che ricorda certe situazioni al confine con il death metal. Non mancano due personalissime rivisitazioni in chiave strumentale di due superclassici: "A Night in Tunisia" di Dizzy Gillespie e Frank Paparelli e il "Revolutionary Etude" di Frederic Chopin.

Un disco per militanti dell'alternativa.
