- CD Review Tips
- Wanted: Visual Arts and Musician Center Editors
Newly Expanded Musician Center
After some hard work under the hood, we recently expanded the AAJ Musician Center to include 10,000 new musician profiles. We also updated each page to include a complete set of helpful links. For a good example, see Ben Allison's page.
The expanded Musician Center also includes links to all related reviews and articles at AAJ, plus downloads and more. We've noticed that Google has begun picking up these pages and indexing them highly on searches. We expect them to become a valuable resource for artists, fans and the rest of the jazz community.
These pages will automatically be updated to include links to future reviews and articles at AAJ. To be sure that your submission is included, just enter the artist's name in the box on the submission form. The new code will use that to automatically update the relevant Musician Center page once the piece is published.
2006 Jazz Festival Press Credentials
Since we're rapidly approaching jazz festival season, we'd like to be sure that we cover as many of these events as possible. If you would like to report on a jazz festival, please contact Mike and he will make the assignments.
You may wish to visit our online Jazz Festival Guide to view the 400+ international events. You can view our current list of assignments here.
JJA Award Nomination
The Jazz Journalists Association has just released a short list of nominations for its 2006 Jazz Awards. Included in the list is a nomination for All About Jazz in the category of "best website concentrating on jazz." We're honored by the fact that our peers have recognized AAJ, and we'd like to thank all of you, the contributors, for your hard work, commitment and good spirit.
We'd like to extend special recognition and appreciation to three active writers who have been incredibly productive over the years, together accounting for nearly 4,000 reviews and articles since 1996. Take a moment to learn more about these veterans and read what they have to say about the music.
- Jim Santella (1996)
- C. Michael Bailey (1997)
- Jack Bowers (1998)
CD Review Tips
Recently we have experienced a spike in CD review submissions, and we'd like to alert writers to the importance of online research to gather information and fill in gaps in press releases. Please spend a few minutes at the artist and label's web sites when you're listening to music you plan to review; the relevant links can usually be found on the release or in the press sheet (or identified using a quick Google search).
Other online resources like the AAJ Musician Center, the Wikipedia and the All Music Guide may be particularly helpful.
If you have any questions about how to find these pages, please let Nils know.
Wanted: Art Gallery and Musician Center Editors
The Visual Arts Center has been growing rapidly, and we're looking for an editor who can help keep an eye on it, stay in touch with the artists, and find ways to recruit new material.
We're also looking for someone to help manage the Musician Center. It's important that we keep all the musician listings as complete and up to date as possible, and we'd also like to explore new ways to get the word out on this free service to the jazz community.
If you're interested in learning more about either opportunity, please contact Michael Ricci.
As always, we welcome your ideas and input. Thanks for being a part of the team!
