Lena Sedykh: Magic Letters

L’artista russa Lena Sedykh, pur non suonando alcuno strumento, ha preso parte attiva alla registrazione delle sue Magic Letters realizzate da un gruppo di musicisti di diversa provenienza sotto la guida del pianista e compositore russo Alexey Lapin [per un approfondimento, leggerne l’intervista su AAJ USA] che si è ispirato alle sue opere pittoriche e ai suoi testi per questo lavoro uscito dalla Leo Records.

Lapin trasforma in musica lo spirito della creatività di Lena Sedykh attraverso una musica decisamente intensa, piena di emotività. Nel processo di redazione, il ruolo della Sedykh è limitato a semplici accenni vocali, frammenti dalle sue lettere che risultano lievi, ma profondi. Il piano di Lapin, accompagnato da una splendida iterazione tra fiati (clarinetto, flauto e tromba), ammalia e seduce.

Esclusa la prima traccia, “The Tale” e l'ultima "The End" in cui emerge la voce della Sedykh, le sette centrali danno vita ad una complessa trama, fitta di scambi tra musicisti. Si alternano pennellate roventi a pennellate più delicate in un'atmosfera che si mantiene sempre lucente e piena di colori.

Bel lavoro, singolare e affascinante per questa sua capacità di unire musica, arte e parole.
