Jon Corbett Dangerous Musics: Kongens Gade

Ecco un disco impeccabile nel suo genere, ma scontato e inutile in quanto non sollecita alcuna nuova riflessione rispetto a quanto è già stato scritto infinite volte su certa improvvisazione radicale di derivazione free e su buona parte dei CD della Leo. Il fluire continuo di questa performance, registrata dal vivo a Londra nel maggio 2009, è stato suddiviso a posteriori in quattro lunghi brani. I tre veterani dell'improvvisazione britannica espongono un tappeto sonoro costante e formicolante, mantenendolo prevalentemente su toni coloristici tenui, su un'evoluzione dinamica statica, senza scossoni, senza deviazioni o impennate degne di nota.

Jon Corbett, alternandosi ai suoi strumenti a fiato, propone un susseguirsi di frasi crepitanti e veloci, ma brevi, spaziate da frequenti pause, quasi seguendo il ritmo naturale della respirazione. Il pulsare scuro del contrabbasso di Stephens, pizzicato o archettato, e il drumming di Moholo-Moholo, implacabile ma quasi ovattato nel sound, forniscono un sottofondo indubbiamente ben caratterizzato, nella classica tradizione free, ma forse troppo omogeneo.

In definitiva, l'identità culturale, la coerenza dell'approccio e l'autenticità espressiva di questa musica sono incontestabili, ma essa risulta decisamente troppo uniforme, troppo insistentemente ribadita, oltre a non essere rappresentativa della creatività jazzistica più attuale.
