Registrato dal vivo a Parigi. In scaletta una serie di brani tratti direttamente dal libro d'oro della storia del jazz. Arrangiamenti scintillanti, per un nonetto che si muove più come una big band che come una piccola orchestra. Un'occasione per rivedere e riascoltare John Hicks... Insomma questo DVD ha tutti gli ingredienti per sviluppare un'implacabile Operazione Nostalgia.
Peronalmente, ho molte riserve sugli standard eseguiti in questo modo. Preferisco rivisitazioni radicali, stravolgimenti significativi. E tuttavia Lovano suona, come sempre del resto, in modo straordinario. La band lo asseconda volentieri, il pubblico applaude felice.
E dunque, per una volta, possiamo anche ammorbidire le nostre posizioni, rilassarci in poltrona, e lasciarci cullare da una musica di puro intrattenimento.
