Chico Hamilton: It's About Time!
Il clima dell'album è decisamente moderno e la scelta di non utilizzare tastiere e fiati mette in particolare evidenza il ruolo del chitarrista Cary DeNigris, sospeso fra tradizione e modernità. La batteria felpata di Hamilton sembra sempre al centro della scena, capace di sottolineare la melodia e di incalzare le sortite solistiche di DeNigris. In "What If" e in "Paul" è il bassista Paul Ramsey a prendersi il proscenio, con assoli legnosi e serpeggianti, ben sostenuti dalle spazzole di Hamilton e dagli accordi smorzati di DeNigris.
Quella che si ascolta in questo album è una musica notturna e urbana, profumata di rhum e illuminata dalla luce al neon dei club after hours. Una musica che sa lasciare spazio a momenti più delicati (come in "Tone Poem in D") per poi ripartire con il giusto passo, incurante dei richiami delle sirene.
