Il bravissimo cantante baritono Jamie Davis ha suonato con la big band che ha raccolto l'eredità di Count Basie e del suo cantante, il famoso Joe Williams, senza prestarsi ad improbabili operazioni di clonazione. Canta se stesso con la sua grande voce, senza temere confronti da alcuno dei colleghi che agiscono nella stessa tonalità, sovrano quando interpreta degli standard famosi e lontano anni luce dai cantanti di piano bar quando per le mani gli passano brani di Stevie Wonder e George Harrison.

La famosa "Isn't She Lovely" viene cantata senza ombra di sentimentalismo e "Besame Mucho" e "Night and Day" ha un'interpretazione basata più su un preciso senso del ritmo che sulla commozione di chi ascolta: semplicemente impressionante.

Nessuna affettazione nella pronuncia, perfezione assoluta, se si pensa che il disco è stato registrato live in studio. Il DVD allegato "making of", come per i famosi film di Hollywood, è un interessante spaccato sui retroscena in studio, interessante per chi padroneggia la lingua inglese ed ha a che fare con le sale d'incisione. Per gli altri resta il CD, prezioso anche da solo.
