Mo' Blow: Gimme The Boots

Dopo i consensi ottenuti in patria con Funkatristic (2008) e For Those About to Funk (2011), il gruppo tedesco torna sul mercato discografico con un lavoro che spinge sulla stessa estetica: un jazz fortemente mischiato con le forme del funk e della fusion, a partire dai modelli classici degli anni sessanta/settanta.

Sarebbe molto difficile per chiunqe, alla prova di un blindfold test, indovinare anche solo la provenienza teutonica della formazione: una conferma delle capacità dei quattro di sostenere un groove contagioso, senza rinunciare a qualche momento riflessivo.

Il leader e principale solista della formazione è Felix F. Falk, che l'ha fondata nel 2002 in Gran Bretagna influenzato delle band inglesi di acid jazz. Da qualche anno, coi suoi partner è un protagonista della scena notturna berlinese, in questa e altri organici di frontiera. Tra i riconoscimenti ottenuti ricordiamo la vittoria al Future Sounds Competition del festival jazz di Leverkusen.

Dal punto di vista musicale c'è molto da dire: i quattro propondono un impetuoso jazz-funk che cerca qualche sonorità inconsueta (occasionalmente fa la comparsa un didgeridoo) e allenta la tensione in brani come "Sunsqueezed" e "Winter came early," dove Falk evidenzia le sue buone doti al sax soprano.

Il contesto privilegiato di questa musica è ovviamente il ballo.
