Tim Kuhl: Ghost
Ciò che sorprende nel lavoro del batterista Tim Kuhl è la grande padronanza e autorevolezza come leader, l'intelligenza nell'aver tralasciato la facile strada del virtuosismo in favore di un azzeccato equilibrio dinamico e timbrico del sestetto, la buona vena compositiva.
L'aria che si respira è quella più classica di casa Blue Note anni sessanta, ossia di un jazz moderno, armonicamente sofisticato, dall'architettura mai banale e dai contorni ben definiti, dall'esecuzione impeccabile ma senza la spregiudicatezza delle menti più creative (Dolphy, Taylor, Shorter..) che popolavano in quel periodo l'etichetta.
Ecco proprio un poco di spregiudicatezza è quello che manca a Ghost, lavoro assai godibile e maturo, ma fin troppo compassato, nel quale si segnala la bella voce coltraniana di JC Kuhl.
