Steve Swell's Fire Into The Music: For Jemeel: Fire From The Road
E' evidente altresì che con tanta carne al fuoco i territori esplorati finiscano per tornare ciclicamente, e tuttavia le variabili all'interno del singolo "contenitore" non mancano, la tensione vivifica dell'opera (e del gruppo) non viene mai meno, lungo geometrie solide, sempre palpabili, credibili, conseguenti. Ognuno dei quattro membri del gruppo fa in pieno il suo dovere, esprimendosi in un linguaggio avanzato ma con solide radici in un più o meno recente passato. Jemeel Moondoc, in particolare, l'unico a non essere più tra noi (se n'è andato nel 2021 a settantacinque anni, e non a caso l'opera gli è dedicata), ha momenti che potremmo definire di stampo post-ornettiano, ma altrove fa proprio un antigrazioso che il profeta del free, dall'alto della sua irrinunciabile vena lirica, tendeva a non praticare. Steve Swell, per parte sua, è solido e rotondo come lo conosciamo, William Parker rimugina costantemente il suo bassismo scuro e ancestrale, mentre Hamid Drake è l'elemento propulsivo instancabile che ben conosciamo.
Un'abbuffata assolutamente salvifica, insomma, certamente da scorporare in successive sessioni di ascolto.
