Non so come mai ho aspettato così a lungo ad avere questo CD, ma quando l’ho acquistato circa sei mesi fa, è stato come prendere una scossa. C’è tutto qui dentro. La sezione ritmica (Bley, Peacock, Motian) ha inventato questo bellissimo, profondo interplay e John Gilmore è come se suonasse da un altro pianeta.
02. Kronos Quartet - Morton Feldman - Piano and String Quartet - (Elektra - 1993).
Ottanta minuti di lenta e crescente beatitudine.
03. Deerhoof - The Runners Four (Kill Rock Stars - 2005).
Grande, e un po' strana, rock-band di San Francisco, con alcune cose che sembrano ispirate al free jazz. E grande suono: grasso, caldo, increspato.
04. Miles Davis - In a Silent Way - (Columbia - 1969).
Nessun commento necessario.
05. Sufjan Stevens - Come on Feel the Illinoise - (Asthamtic Kitty - 2005).
Folk pop ispirato a Steve Reich, con testi sullo stato dell’Illinois.
06. Julius Hemphill - Dogon A.D. - (Arista - 1972).
Un classico misconosciuto degli anni ‘70, che suona fresco come nessun’altra cosa registrata oggi, con Philip Wilson alla batteria, Baikida E.J. Carrol alla tromba e Abdul Wadud al cello.
07. Mat Maneri - Pentagon - (Thirsty Ear - 2005).
Un improvvisatore veramente unico. Controllate il modo in cui lavora con i livelli di intonazione utilizzandoli come elementi musicali. Sono stato fortunato a suonare con Matt recentemente, è per me fonte di ispirazione e di continuo apprendimento. Questo CD presenta inoltre sorprendenti improvvisatori e amici, come Ben Gerstein, John McLellan and Craig Taborn.
08. Sigur Ros - Takk - (Geffen - 2005).
Piccolo spot per musica “epica“.
09. Brian Eno - Discreet Music - (Virgin - 1975).
Il pioniere dell’”Ambient Music”. Il primo brano dura quasi trenta minuti ed è creato con un sinth analogico che suona 5 o 6 melodie in un equalizer manipolato in tempo reale da Eno, poi trasferito da un echo tape ad un nastro: il risultato è meraviglioso, musica ambient con corpo ed anima. Sto pensando di fare un disco di ambient con il mio gruppo, ho già individuato qualche brano guida e sembra funzionare. Staremo a vedere.
10. Talk Talk - Laughing Stock - (Polydor - 1991).
Un gruppo synth - pop dei primi anni ‘80 che dieci anni dopo si è votato alla pop art sperimentale. Sono stati sei mesi in uno studio per registrare questo album e il risultato è assolutamente attuale e molto aperto. Grande suono e grandi atmosfere.
