Luigi Ruberti: Dedicated to Bill Evans

Al terzo album per la Splasc(H), il contrabbassista napoletano Luigi Ruberti cambia ospite speciale (passando da Flavio Boltro al vibrafonista americano Mark Sherman) e musica (concentrandosi sulle composizioni del pianista Bill Evans). Da contrabbassista, un ruolo importante nelle formazioni guidate da Evans grazie in particolare al genio di Scott LaFaro, Eddie Gomez e Marc Johnson, Ruberti non poteva non appasionarsi all'opera del pianista di Plainfield (New Jersey) che ha lanciato un ponte fra la muscia occidentale e quella afroamericana. Una strada poi percorsa da tanti pianisti, in Europa e negli USA, e che in Italia ha trovato terreno fertile.

Mark Sherman, in sei brani, è decisivo con la sua verve e l'incisività delle improvvisazioni, che levano dai brani ogni rischio di leziosità. Accanto al leader che si ritaglia notevoli spazi ("Peace Piece"), è il catalizzatore della seduta. Un bell'esempio è "Bill's Hit Tune" per come incalza il trombettista Giamfranco Campagnoli, che dà tutto in termini di abilità strumentale ed espressività.

È quindi al pianista Mimmo Napolitano che tocca il compito piú ingrato ma sa districarsi con molta cura e dimostrando abilità nei brani in cui si trova da solo a sostenere le idee del leader, elegante e puntuale. Nel finale "Epilogue" con pochi tocchi crea un'atmosfera in cui trasuda tanto lirismo e passione.

L'omaggio di Ruberti è riuscito, sincero ed espressivo, partecipe di un'eredità musicale in cui si sente realmente coinvolto.
