Maya Dunietz - Steve Noble - John Edwards: Cousin It
I tre non ci mettono nemmeno un brano a far comprendere che fanno sul serio e che la strada - per quanto inusuale - può davvero piacere. La strada è quella della ricerca di nuove confluenze sonore. La batteva anche Derek Bailey in alcune fulgide avventure alla fine dei Settanta. Nella sua parte più rumoristica, sembra accennare ai cartoons o a momenti filmici che forse sarebbero piaciuti a Fellini, spingendo al limite il concetto dell'improvvisazione. Il "groove" resta però sempre presente ed eloquente in tutti e otto i brani.
Un linguaggio certamente alternativo ma sempre coerente, forse incrinato soltanto da un nemmeno tanto leggero rumore di massa che - nonostante la lunga gestazione del CD - resta purtroppo evidente in alcune tracce della registrazione.
Il resto è una piccola enciclopedia del moderno linguaggio musicale. Una sorta di miniaturizzazione di suoni che vanno dal klezmer all'heavy metal e dal boogie woogie allo swing, passando dalla musica da camera al rumorismo nella più regale ambientazione free.
Non so dire se il "Cugino It" del titolo abbia qualcosa a che fare con quello famoso, pelosissimo e ricco di una "t" in più reso celebre dai telefilm della famiglia Addams ma questo disco è troppo divertente per non piacere.
