Se Solo a Genova ci aveva rivelato il lato sorprendentemente intimo e meditativo di Jamie Saft, Blue Dream espande sia a livello sonoro che di formazione quel mood e quella visione. Regalandoci così un album classico per struttura e concezione, sobrio nel rivisitare i canoni di un jazz in gran parte ancorato alla strada maestra, creativo nel trovare soluzioni e sviluppi.

Nove composizioni originali che suonano come standard e tre standard storici si fondono in un unicum tra atmosfere d'altri tempi e suggestioni contemporanee. Una vera delizia il sax diBill McHenry (musicista tra i più sottovalutati in circolazione), vellutato e morbido senza melassa, grintoso e graffiante quando necessario, spirituale e meditativo, un esempio di stile e di personalità in qualsiasi contesto lo si trovi.

Il pianoforte del leader veicola ormai una piena maturità espressiva, esibendo brillantezza esecutiva, enciclopedica conoscenza ma soprattutto la capacità di fungere da ponte di comando dal quale indicare la strada al gruppo. Con l'elastica sezione ritmica a fungere da necessario e discreto propulsore. Ennesima gemma del sempre più significativo catalogo RareNoise Blue Dream è splendida dimostrazione di come storia e tradizione possano suonare nuove e differenti.
